William John & Maria SPURRELL arrived in 1852 at Portland, S-W Victoria on the "Marmion" and had moved north to Casterton, S-W Victoria where 9 children were born from 1857 to 1872.

William John SPURRELL was a horsebreaker and butcher of Casterton and died (suicide) at Casterton in 1872 and his widow Maria had also died there in 1898, and both were buried in the Casterton old cemetery.
