"The Argus" (Melbourne, Vic.) Sat 18th June 1853. AN EYE TO BUSINESS.--The following advertisement appears in the Portland papers :-- "Border Post : The undersigned being duly appointed postmaster, notifies to the public that there are an unlimited number of newspapers of various dates lying at the above office ; any of the inhabitants of Mount Gambier or New Country missing the same will have the goodness to apply, where they will meet with due attendance. At the same time he would respectfully notify that he has just obtained a Publican's General License, and is well supplied with the best liquors that Portland can afford.--Michael Spring."

"The Portland Guardian" (Vic.) Monday, 14th January 1856. NOTICE.--THAT through the Humane principles of A. Watson, Esq., Police Magistrate, Penola, having guaranteed me to the Bench, Casterton, I obtained a new Licence for the Border Inn, Lindsay. After the 1st January, 1856, it will be opened for the accommodation of the public. While the above Inn was closed it was universally believed it was like the Hospital tents before Scutari, i.e., food for the hungry, and shelter for the naked, with or without cash ; now I trust the public will call with cheques and orders. M. SPRING, Lindsay, December 11, 1855.
