James O'NEIL b. 1820, Dublin, Ireland, son of John O'NEIL & Ann KEARNEY was married at "Retreat" Station, near Casterton in the 1860s to Elizabeth Kemp HAXTON, b. 1838, Cupar, Fifeshire, Scotland, daughter of John HAXTON and Jean SIM.
James O'NEIL appears to have arrived in New South Wales abt 1837 and moved to Victoria abt 1853.

James O'NEIL was a farmer of Bahgallah, near Casterton in the 1870s when many of his children enrolled at the Bahgallah School after moving from Casterton.
James O'NEIL died at Bahgallah in 1897 and was buried in the Casterton Old Cemetery where he has a marble headstone erected by his wife.
Elizabeth Kemp O'NEIL died at Hamilton in 1905.
