Captain John PHILIP b. 1811, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, son of James PHILIP and Elizabeth LYALL, was a merchant sailor and early squatter around Victoria Lake, Miga Lake, Spring Bank and St Mary's Lake near Harrow in south-western Victoria.

John PHILIP married 1839, Aberdeenshire, Scotland to Margaret ROBERTSON, b. 1820, Aberdeenshire, Scotland, daughter of Thomas ROBERTSON and Ann LACHLAN.

John & Margaret PHILIP arrived at Port Phillip in 1847 and settled at "Mount Mitchell" station, Lexton, Victoria. By 1848 they had moved to "Victoria Lagoon" station, near Cavendish, S-W Victoria.

In 1881 John PHILIP died at "Miga Lake" station, near Harrow, S-W Victoria and his widow Margaret died there in 1909.
