Norman BETHUNE b. 1795 Isle of Skye, Inverness, Scotland, son of Duncan & Isabella BETHUNE was married abt 1825 at Portree, Scotland to Catharine McDONALD. Norman was a farmer / crofter of 4 acres at Borniskitaig, Isle of Skye, Scotland, a tenant Lord Godfrey William Wentworth MacDonald, 4th Baron of the Isle of Skye. He arrived in Australia, with his family in 1853 on the ship Neptune, South Australia, 25 October, from Plymouth 7 June 1853, Captain Henderson. (Register 26 October 1853). He was accompanied by his wife Catherine (McDonald), his children Lachlan, Christain, Ann, Isabella and Malcolm. Norman came to Victoria about 1858 and farmed at Chetwynd, where he died in 1880. Another son named Alexander born in 1832 was separated in the immigration process and arrived on the ship Oliva 14 November, from Plymouth 30 July 1853, Captain T. Williams.
