    Appears to be one of the sons of Samuel PATMAN 1818-1892 and Rebecca SKINNER 1813-1892 from Cambridgeshire, England who arrived at Belfast (Pt Fairy) on the "Duke of Richmond" in 1853. Known children were David PATMAN 1837-1907 m. Susannah BROWN 1850-1928; James PATMAN 1841-1911, m. Elizabeth Hope AFFLECK 1845-1938; William Seth PATMAN 1843-1922; Esther Eleanor PATMAN 1845-1915; Samuel PATMAN 1846-1914, m. Elilias McBETH 1857-1934; William PATMAN 1850-1921; Agnes PATMAN ca 1851-?; Macer PATMAN 1855-1873.

  2. S. TYERS
    Samuel TYERS, b. 1827 Knossington, Leicestershire, England, son of John TYERS and Eleanor BURBECK, d. 1913 Byaduk, Vic. Samuel married Jane ?? 1837-1915, who also died in Byaduk and they did not have any children. Samuel's parents John and Eleanor both died in Victoria, in 1870 and 1871 respectively.


  3. R. CHRISTIE
    Richard CHRISTIE, b 1832 Garvald, East Lothian, Sct., son of Richard CHRISTIE and Jane HENDERSON. Richard d 30 Apr 1908, Macarthur, Vic. Richard m. 1877 to Mary ELLIOTT (nee ROURKE) 1842-1928, daughter of Michael ROURKE and Mary MURRAY. Mary was the widow of Stephen ELLIOTT who died from snake bite in 1870 and is buried at Byaduk.


  4. W. GIBBINS
    William GIBBINS 1837-1925, born Tugby, Leicestershire, England, son of Henry GIBBINS and Ann PHILLIP. William married in 1863 at Byaduk, Vic to Sarah CLARKE 1844-1903, born Suffolk, England, daughter of Samuel CLARKE and Maria PRATT.


  5. J. HARMAN
    Jonathan HARMAN 1837-1930 OR his brother James HARMAN 1831-1916, sons of Joseph HARMAN and Sarah MULBERRY.

    James HARMAN, b. Melbourn, Cambridgeshire 1831. James married Susan REED 1831-1916 and they had 10 children from 1854 to 1873. James and Susan Harman migrated to Australia from England aboard the Duke of Richmond. They arrived in Portland Bay on 4/3/1853. The name of their property at Byaduk was "Mt Pleasant". James was a farmer but also had a carrying business between Port Fairy and Hamilton with his brother Jonathan until around 1874. James was also a lay preacher with the Byaduk Methodist Church.

    Jonathan HARMAN, b. Melbourn, Cambridgeshire 1837. Jonathan migrated to Australia with his brothers Reuben and George aboard "Kate" arriving at Sydney in 1854. Married Mary OLIVER 1843-1884 in 1862, daughter of Jonathan OLIVER and Ann RICHARDS. They had 10 children born at Byaduk from 1863 to 1876. Their property at Byaduk was "Cave Park". Jonathan was a farmer as well as the carrying business with his brother James.

  7. A. CLARKE
    Abraham CLARKE 1857-1944, son of Samuel CLARKE 1820-1910 and Maria PRATT 1820-1900, b. Belfast (now Port Fairy), m. Matilda SMITH 1862-1890 in 1888. They had one son, Alfred before Matilda died in 1890 at Warracknabeal. Abraham married again in 1905 to a widow Ellen HINDES (nee BISHOP) and they had a son George 1907-1952. Abraham and Ellen both died at Byaduk in 1944 and 1931 respectively. Samuel CLARKE and Maria PRATT were from Suffolk, England and arrived on the "Duke of Richmond" in 1853 with four children (Sarah, Samuel, Emma & George), another daughter, Anna Maria was born at sea and died soon after arrival. They had another six children after arrival (William, Abraham, Mary Ann, Isaac, Jacob and Rebecca). Maria and Samuel died at Buninyong, near Ballarat in 1900 and 1910 respectively.

    Michael POWER 1852-1933, born at The Grange, son of Thomas POWER 1805-1889 and Margaret MARTIN 1822-1905 who are both buried in the Macarthur Cemetery.


  9. T. HARPER
    Thomas HARPER 1833-1923, b. Cambridgeshire, England, son of Benjamin HARPER 1805-1862 and Lydia NEGUS 1809-1882, both of whom died in Warrnambool. Thomas married in 1853 to Mary Ann ADAMS 1835-1920 and they had 13 children from 1854 to 1876, all born near Warrnambool or Byaduk.


  10. J. CHRISTIE
    John CHRISTIE, b 1834 Garvald, East Lothian, Sct., son of Richard CHRISTIE and Jane HENDERSON. John d. 15 May 1918 Byaduk, Vic. John m. 1858 to Margaret O'HAGEN 1834-1914, daughter of William O'HAGEN and Sarah DOOLEY.

    Donald FRASER 1858-1931, son of James FRASER and Mary MacDONALD, m. 1895 to Elizabeth Cecelia CHRISTIE 1867-1942, daughter of John CHRISTIE and Margaret O'HAGEN.

  2. F. KINGHORN
    Francis "Bushy" KINGHORN b. 1836 Haddington, East Lothian, Sct d. 1919 Byaduk, Vic. Francis m. 1868 to Elizabeth WHITE 1846-1913, b. Perthshire, Sct. Francis KINGHORN was the son of David KINGHORN 1799-1869, buried Byaduk, Vic., and Frances VERT 1801-1859, buried St Kilda Cemetery, Vic. Elizabeth WHITE was the daughter of David WHITE and Catherine SUTTIE. Francis and Elizabeth KINGHORN had 12 children, the youngest Walter Rodney KINGHORN was in the 4th Light Horse Regiment and was one of the unlucky ones to be killed in the Light Horse Charge at Beersheba in Palestine on 31 Oct 1917.

    John Francis KINGHORN 1924-1997, a grandson of Francis and Elizabeth KINGHORN was a tail gunner in Lancaster bombers with 406 Squdron, RAAF over Germany in WW2. His daughter Sally has put a few details, including WW2 photographs including many names on a website at:

    Elizabeth WHITE b. 1846 Perthshire, Sct., daughter of David WHITE and Catherine SUTTIE. Elizabeth WHITE m. 1868 to Francis "Bushy" KINGHORN 1836-1919 and she died in 1912 from injuries received in a buggy accident.

    William BRAND 1833-1914, born Chrishall, Essex, England, son of William BRAND and Elizabeth PITY. William married to Susan WARD 1837-1907 in 1854, she was the daughter of James WARD and Charlotte CLARKE.


  7. J. RENTSCH Snr.
    Johann RENTSCH 1835-1909, son of Johan RENTSCH and Maria NETTIG. Johann m. 1856 Magdalena BURGER 1834-1915, daughter of Peter BURGER and Agnes SCHMIDT. Johann and Magdalena had seven children, most of whom were born at Byaduk. Johann died in Byaduk in 1909 and is buried in the Lutheran Cemetery at Byaduk.


  8. Mrs. J. RENTSCH
    Magdalena BURGER, 1834-1915, dau of Peter BURGER and Agnes SCHMIDT, wife of Johann RENTSCH 1835-1909. Magdalena died in Byaduk in 1915 and is buried in the Lutheran Cemetery at Byaduk.


  9. Mrs. CAMERON
    Mrs CAMERON appears to be Janet CAMERON 1834-1917, b. Lochaber, INV, Sct., daughter of Angus CAMERON and Sarah McCOLL second wife of John CAMERON 1816-1890, b. Morvern, ARL, Sct., son of Samuel CAMERON and Barbara BUCHANAN. John & Janet CAMERON, who married at Violet Creek Station in 1856 had 7 children born at Branxholme or Macarthur from 1858-1872. Both John and Janet CAMERON died near Edenhope, John in 1890 and Janet in 1917. A copy of this Byaduk pioneer photograph from 1907 is in the possession of members of this CAMERON family indicating a significant connection with the Byaduk Pioneers.

Cork, Ireland, daughter of Daniel BUCKLEY and Johanna KENEALLY. Joseph died in 1893 and is buried in the Macarthur Cemetery. Joseph and mary in Victoria in 1858 and had 6 children. Their property was "Twyford Farm" at Warrabkook, near Macarthur.

    Marion KINGHORN b. 1834 Haddington, East Lothian, Sct d. 1916 Byaduk, Vic, widow of Peter KINGHORN 1835-1894, m. 1865 Ballarat, VIC. Marion KINGHORN was the daughter of David KINGHORN 1799-1869, buried Byaduk, Vic., and Frances VERT 1801-1859, buried in the St Kilda General Cemetery, Melbourne, Victoria.

    The child is Peter Stewart KINGHORN 1904-c1985, and being nursed by his grandmother Marion KINGHORN. Peter was the eldest child of John Beard KINGHORN 1871-1958 and Margaret Edith STEWART 1876-1966.

    Edith Emily SLATER was born in Alberton, South Gippsland in 1867 and she was the daughter of Henry BALDWIN and Harriett OLIVER. She married James SLATER on 30-12-1892 in Footscray. James was born in Kent, England in 1863 and was the son of Henry SLATER and Sarah GENTLE. They had a family of six children, Edith Emily, Leslie James, Lillian Sarah, Oliver Henry, Francis Oswald and Edna Olive Isobel.

    Margaret O'HAGEN, b 1834 Loughrea, Galway, IRL, daughter of William O'HAGEN and Sarah DOOLEY, she d. 25 Oct 1914, Byaduk, Vic., m. 1858 to John CHRISTIE, 1832-1908.


  8. Mrs. T. HARPER
    Mary Ann ADAMS 1835-1920, daughter of John ADAMS and Ann CLARKE, m. 1853 to Thomas HARPER 1833-1923. Thomas and Mary Ann HARPER had a family of 13 children and they are both buried at Warrnambool.


  9. Mrs. C. BRAND
    Rebecca COOK 1834-1917, daughter of Reuben COOK and Sarah ..?.., widow of Charles BRAND 1830-1903, the son of William BRAND and Elizabeth PITY. Charles and Rebecca had large family most of whom were born at Byaduk. Both Charles and Rebecca died at Byaduk and are buried in the Byaduk Cemetery.


  10. Mrs. R. HARMAN
    Elizabeth OLIVER 1843-1919, daughter of John OLIVER 1809-1894 and Ann RICHARDS 1808-1875, widow of Reuben HARMAN 1839-1883 who was the son of Joseph HARMAN and Sarah MULBERRY. Reuban and Elizabeth HARMAN were married in 1864, their property at Byaduk was known as "Berry Park", they had six children are both buried at Byaduk.

Hannah KINGHORN was the daughter of David KINGHORN 1799-1869, buried Byaduk, Vic., and Frances VERT 1801-1859, buried St Kilda Cemetery, Vic.

  1. Rev. Mr. FIELD
    Rev John T. FIELD was the Methodist minister at Byaduk from 1903-1907. The Methodist Church at Byaduk was celebrating the Diamond Jubilee on April 13-16 in 1924 and guest preacher for that occasion was Rev John T. FIELD.


  2. W. H. MELVILLE
    William Henry MELVILLE 1859-1926, son of William MELVILLE 1829-1897 "Weerangourt" and Ann McDONALD 1835-1859. Ann McDONALD, b. 1834 Golspie, Sutherlandshire, Scotland, dau of John McDONALD and Charlotte FLEMING died in Victoria in 1859. William MELVILLE Snr. married a second time to Annette Margaret BAYLES 1842-1920 and they had seven children born at Byaduk. William Henry MELVILLE Jnr. was a Solicitor and Philanthropist and he married Minnie SCOWCROFT 1860-1940 (dau of Capt Hugh Arthur Fender SCOWCROFT and Marion 'Minnie' PEARSON) at Melbourne in 1890 and they had 5 children born at Hamilton from 1892 to 1901.
