The settlement of returned soldiers on Konongwootong North and Wootong Vale Estates created a need for a school. Early in 1927 G. W. LAMB, a settler at Wootong Vale, called a meeting of the settlers in the Wootong Vale-North Konongwootong area with the object of obtaining a school. At the time the children travelled up to 6 miles to attend neighbouring schools. As a result of this meeting, Konongwootong North School opened on 16th September 1927 in a room of the home of TROETH. The room measured 14ftx18ft. HT Miss DURNAN enrolled 24 pupils. The original Committee Chairman and Correspondent was Geo. W. LAMB, James Joseph BURKE, exit student from Bendigo Teachers College, was appointed HT in 1928. In 1929 the school was moved into its new building on the present site of 3 acres. The building was officially opened by W. SLATER MLA, on 16th of September of that year. BURKE remained HT of the school until 1940 and is remembered with respect and affection. Evidence of his interest in gardening remains in the ANA prize awarded in 1933, and in the many trees in the schoolground. From 1927-69 the school had 16 HT’s and several SM’s.
